OUTLINE OF PRESENTATION

Kindergarten -- First -- Second

The following will be taught, explained, illustrated and discussed:

1. My first published book, “For Sale: One Sister – Cheap!” as an example, will be discussed

2. The following terms are carefully defined:

          Author -------- The person who writes a book will be presented with the additional edited rewrites
                                    actual evolution of a book from start to finish.

          Manuscript -- The preliminary handwritten and typed rough drafts will be presented along with the book to develop
                                    understanding of the actual evolution of a book from start to finish.

          Illustrator ----- The person who draws the pictures and other artwork to be included in the book. 
                              
                                    The illustrations are presented, using various mediums, to demonstrate the evolution of the art that
                                     became the final inclusions in the book. 

3. Together, we will read parts of the “The Petal Leapers,” for fundamental explanations. 

4. A simple discussion follows to understand creative techniques for building a story.

Third thru Eight

The following will be taught, explained, illustrated and discussed:


Several necessary parts must be present before submitting a manuscript for publication

1. Basic parts of a manuscript:

             The Cover Page, The Title Page, The Author Information Page, The Dedication Paragraphs, The Story and The
             Illustrations.

2. The initial theme must be present in our mind:

             To help the student invision how real-life experiences are one way to decide the development of a book, we will read
             parts of "For Sale: One Sister -- Cheap," as it relates to this author's work.

3. Fostering understanding with the student shows how a manuscript is improved through rewriting , and, editing by others:

             The preliminary handwritten and typed rough drafts will be presented along with the book to develop understanding of
             the actual evolution of a book from start to finish.

4. Illustrations must be invisioned:

             The illustrations are presented, using various mediums, to demonstrate the evolution of the art that became the final
              inclusions in the book.

5. The cover letter and its importance:

             The Cover letter's objective, hinged to a discussion of the book's elements of  necessary content.

Key elements of a book are designed to capture the interest of the publishing company

1. The neat, orderly, polished manuscript is presented and discussed.

2. Large, colorfull and unique illustrations --  carry much weight with the publisher. Their evolution is discussed.

3. Creativity entraps publishers: Writing techniques, catchy titles, hooks and page-turners are examples discussed.

Four necessary parts of an "organized plot" make an entertaining story publishable

1. Developing the main character.

2. The Intrinsic problem

3. The struggle.

4. Resolution of the strugle.

(Optional) "Group Writing" to better teaches the concepts
